Driveway Repairs

Crack sealing, surface patching, and section replacement for concrete and paver driveways across Davis and Weber County. Small problems get bigger fast in Utah's freeze-thaw climate. Getting a crack or spalled section addressed early is almost always cheaper than waiting until it becomes a replacement job.

Why driveways crack and fail in Utah's climate

The biggest enemy of concrete driveways in Davis County is the freeze-thaw cycle. Water gets into a surface crack, freezes, expands, and forces the crack wider. Over several winters this turns a hairline crack into a structural one. Deicing salt accelerates the process by drawing moisture into the concrete and breaking down the surface — sand is a much safer choice for traction on concrete driveways in winter.

Poor base prep during original installation is the second most common cause. If the subgrade wasn't compacted or the gravel base is inadequate, the slab can settle and crack from below. These are structural failures, and they typically require section removal and repour rather than surface repair. If you've got a section of driveway that has dropped or shifted vertically at a joint, that's a base issue — not just a crack to seal. We assess the failure mode before recommending a repair approach.

Repair options matched to the type of damage

Hairline surface cracks: routed and sealed with flexible polyurethane or epoxy. This keeps water out and slows progression. It doesn't hide the crack, but it stops the damage cycle. Spalled surface (the top layer flaking or popping off): depends on depth and extent. Shallow spalling can be addressed with bonded concrete overlay or surface patch. Deep or widespread spalling often means full resurfacing or replacement.

Settled or heaved sections: requires demo of the affected section, correction of the base problem, and repour. Trying to lift and fill a settled section without fixing the base just means it settles again. For paver driveways, individual pavers can be pulled, the base re-graded, and pavers reset — a significant advantage of paver systems versus poured concrete when settling occurs. We assess each situation and give you a straight answer on what the repair will actually accomplish.

Driveway Repair Pricing in Utah

Repair cost depends on the type of damage and the approach required. Surface repairs are quoted per square foot or linear foot; structural repairs by section.

Surface patching (spalling, pitting)

Bonded patch material for surface defects

$10 – $25 / sq ft

Driveway Repair Questions

Common questions about crack sealing, patching, and when repair makes more sense than replacement.

01Can a cracked concrete driveway be repaired?

Yes, in most cases. Surface cracks and stable structural cracks can be routed and sealed. Spalled areas can be patched. Settled sections where the base has failed require more involved work. The key question is whether the crack is stable (not actively moving or widening) and whether the underlying cause has been addressed. A sealed crack in a driveway with a failed base will just re-crack.

02Should I repair or replace my driveway?

If the driveway is under 20 years old, cracking is limited to one or two areas, and the rest of the surface is in good shape, repair makes sense. If you have widespread cracking, settling in multiple locations, surface spalling across most of the driveway, or the slab is 30 or more years old, replacement is likely more cost-effective long term. We give you a straight assessment — we don't push replacement if repair is the right answer.

03Does Utah freeze-thaw damage driveways?

Yes, significantly. Davis County sees 30 to 50 freeze-thaw cycles per year. Water enters surface cracks and expands as it freezes, widening cracks each cycle. Low-quality concrete, inadequate air entrainment in the mix, and deicing salt all accelerate the damage. Sealing cracks early and using sand instead of chloride ice melters are the two most effective things you can do to extend driveway life in Utah winters.

04Can you patch just part of a driveway?

Yes. Partial section replacement (cutting out a damaged section along control joint lines and pouring a new section) is a common and effective repair. The new concrete won't match the color of the existing driveway exactly — concrete weathers and fades over time — but structurally the repair is sound. If matching appearance is important to you, a full resurfacing after the structural repair can give the driveway a uniform appearance.

05How much do driveway repairs cost in Utah?

Simple crack sealing starts at $3 to $8 per linear foot. Surface patching runs $10 to $25 per square foot. Section replacement is $10 to $20 per square foot. For a typical repair job involving one or two problem areas on a residential driveway, expect $300 to $1,500 depending on scope. We don't charge for the estimate — send photos or schedule a walkthrough.

Had a rental property that was basically a jungle when my tenants moved out & needed it cleaned up fast to get new renters in. The crew knocked it out in one day and the price was totally reasonable. Property manager said it looked better than it had in years!
